Grade Level Concepts This Month
Kindergarten and first grade classes have been reading aloud rhythmic patterns including quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth notes, and eighth rests using traditional symbols. All students have learned about RHYTHM. Rhythm is patterns of long sounds, short sounds and silences. Students have been discussing rhythm and continuing their study of steady beat patterns verses rhythm.

Second grade classes are discussing recognizing and naming as many percussion instruments as they can. They are practicing notating rhythm patterns and then transferring those patterns to hand drums. Students love the marching and drum holding game. Quarter notes, Quarter rests, and barred eighth notes have been the focus of our lessons this month.
Stay tuned for our great school made drums. Thanks to our wonderful PTA we have real drum sticks to use with our school made drums.

Fourth and Fifth grade classes have begun notating and performing rhythm
patterns using barred eighth notes and rests.
We’ve studied percussion instruments and we finally used the opportunity
to make lots of rhythms on hand drums.
Students are having fun with rhythms and playing percussion instruments. When I say “Can you play this rhythm
too,” they smile and know what to
do. Ask the students about our new
school made drums that are coming soon.
